For those familiar with the installation of drivers into earlier implementations of Windows, the automated process of Windows 2000 and Windows 98 is a great step forward for users. However, the step requires additional work on the part of the driver author in that, at a minimum, an INF file must be supplied. In the end, all parties benefit from the common, standardized mechanism of driver installation. The final chapter in the book deals with the necessary subject of debugging device drivers using Microsoft tools.
