Front and Center: Being an Effective Project Manager

If you previously found yourself in a position of Web designer and have now found yourself in a position of managing a team of developers, two courses of action can be taken. Your first choice is to humbly take on your new position and pat yourself on the back for advancing in the world. If, on the other hand, you need to continue being the designer that you were in the midst of your new role as manager, there is a way to do both.

No rule prevents a manager from designing the templates to be used by the team. There is also nothing preventing the same manager from designing a site theme or even Web shells and bringing the team in to "fill in the blanks." Not everyone has an eye for design, and designing the basic building blocks for the project that your team must take on can be a good idea.

It is important to point out that some designers feel that they need to do everything on a project, despite team size. This often can cause all sorts of problems and is something you want to be careful not to do. If you have been given a team of people to work with, be sure that you make use of this valuable resource. You will find that your team is more valuable to the project than FrontPage will ever be.
