Summary

In this chapter we've covered information to help you make an informed decision about your intranet browser base decisions. We've looked at how Internet Explorer has the obvious benefit that it is part of the Windows operating system, and can integrate with other Windows products. We've also mentioned how you should never take for granted the fact that we only have one browser to code for, as generally this decision is out of our hands, and the situation may change in the future. We've talked about web standards and touched on how to code them with confidence for more streamlined code, make it more maintainable, and enhance accessibility.

As browsers progress, their support for W3C technologies such as the JavaScript DOM, XML, and CSS is improving. This is fantastic news for the intranet developer as we can move our intranets forward and, as long as we keep to the standards, our work in the future will be much easier.
