Working with Object Styles

For the most part, you work with object styles as you would text style, however, with one important difference. There are two types of local formatting changes that can be applied to object styles. There are the local formatting changes that modify attributes that are defined in the style; and there are the local formatting changes that modify attributes that are not defined in the style. Each of these is handled differently.

To clear local formatting defined in the style:

1.

Select the object that has the modifications to the object style. A plus (+) sign indicates that local formatting has been applied to the style .

The plus sign next to the object style name indicates that local formatting was applied to the object.

2.

Click the Clear Overrides icon to clear the local formatting applied to the object. The plus sign disappears .

There are two ways to clear overrides applied to object styles.

Tip

You can also use the Redefine Style command from the Object Styles menu to change the style definition to fit the local formatting. This also removes the plus sign.

You may also have made changes to the object in categories that were not selected in the object style. This local formatting is not indicated by a plus sign.

To clear local formatting not defined in the style:

1.

Select the object that has the modifications to the object style.

2.

Click the Clear Overrides Not Defined in the Style icon to clear the local formatting applied to the object .

Tip

The only way to know if that local formatting has been applied to the object is if the icon is visible.
