Moving Forward

Testing is a vital part of software development. What’s sad is how many software shops don’t include usability testing when they test. Imagine how much better software could be if developers knocked out the usability bugs before releasing the software. Never underestimate the value of a good test engineer.

Now if you’ve been reading this book all the way through, you’ll be happy to know that you have only two more chapters to go. Chapter 14, “Installing, Training, and Helping,” covers three final topics for you programmer types out there: training, installers, and online help. (And by training I mean on both ends: training people to use your software as well as seeking training for you and your coworkers.) Installers and online help are two fundamental issues to software as well.

And then Chapter 15, “Book in a Book: A Guide for Programming Bosses,” everybody can read, but it’s primarily for managers. It talks about some issues (some of which are human resource–related) that managers need to especially be aware of when they are overseeing a team of programmers trying to design highly useable software. Have fun!
