Appendix.The Crystal Game

Appendix. The Crystal Game

The sample system used throughout this book is a location-aware game called the Crystal Game. It takes place in a setting fitted with the proper sensors for capturing location information about the players. The setting has virtual crystals sprinkled around it. The object of the game is to obtain as many virtual crystals as possible before the time period of the game is up. Players with handheld devices roam around the game area. Their devices inform them when they have found crystals, which have been hidden around the game-play area. They also are informed when they have encountered another player or a nonplayer (computer-generated) character (NPC).

This appendix presents all of the requirements for the Crystal Game. Each requirement is numbered to simplify identification. Most of these requirements describe very specific behavior. Some are relatively ambiguous. Ultimately, we must refine all of the requirements and resolve all of their ambiguities. Most of the requirements presented here have already had their ambiguities resolved and have been refined as far as is needed. Some have been left ambiguous so that we can use them in the book as examples of how to identify ambiguous requirements and refine them.
