Chapter 9.  Risk Analysis Details

Determining the contribution that a task should make to the risk factor of a stream of tasks requires looking at all the significant possible causes of task overrun. You should always report the risk factor contribution that is largest from this group of causes. In addition, you should also report whether there is a step-function risk in this group. The project manager and the team will combine this information when determining the risk factor to use for the string of tasks.

When the risk factors have been determined for all the successive strings of tasks that make up the critical path and all of them have been inserted into the Gantt chart, the project team has completed the chart, and the finish date of the last task is the date the project is expected to finish.

One must tweak software like Microsoft Project 2002® to enable it to be a satisfactory project-monitoring tool when risk factors are inserted into the Gantt chart.
