81. Zoom In and Out with the Overview Palette

In the last task, you learned how to zoom in or out using the Zoom tool and its buttons on the Tool Options palette. However, if the Overview palette is displayed, you can use it to zoom in and out without changing to the Zoom tool first.

TIP

Another way you can zoom without changing to the Zoom tool first is to use the scroll wheel on your mouse (if it has one). Scroll the wheel forward to zoom in; scroll it backward to zoom out.

Display the Overview Palette

Choose View, Palettes, Overview from the menu bar, or press F9 .

Choose a Zoom Amount

To view an image at a particular zoom level (such as 50%), type a percentage in the Zoom (Percent) box.

To zoom gradually, click either of the Zoom by 1 Step buttons.

To view the image at 100% (actual size ), click the Actual Size button.

NOTE

You might have noticed the "do not" red slash/circle on the Actual Size icon and wondered, "Will this blow something up if I click it?" The answer is nothe symbol simply means, "no magnification," or 100% zoom.
