Case Studies

Complete the following exercises for the three case study companies. You may wish to refer back to Chapter 4, “Pre-Design Procedures,” to review the complete overview of each company. Once you have completed these exercises, you may compare your solutions to ours in the back of the book. Realize that even though your answers may differ from ours, that does not necessarily mean that one is right and the other is wrong.

Have-A-Seat

  1. Would you recommend the use of private addressing for Have-A-Seat’s network? How about NAT? Why or why not?

  2. Using your high-level topology map from Chapter 4, design an IP addressing scheme for Have-A-Seat.

  3. Would you recommend the use of route summarization by Have-A-Seat? Why or why not?

  4. Dave has decided that he wants to run DHCP from Atlanta for all workstations on his network. He will use static addresses on all servers and network devices. Draw a high-level topology map of DHCP traffic flow and describe any special implementation details.

MPS Construction

In speaking with Mike, you find that he is willing to use TCP/IP as his exclusive communications protocol. You agree to help him with this transition.

  1. Would you recommend the use of private addressing for MPS construction? How about NAT? Why or why not?
