Summary

Cisco’s SAFE architecture design blueprint allows network designers to use a modular approach to creating secure network designs. Network devices and appliances are deployed within the modules of the SAFE blueprint to support security policies and management and reporting needs.

Each and every piece of the network is a target for attack and thus needs to be designed, secured, and monitored to prevent attacks from successfully penetrating or to help minimize the effects.

As converged networks become more and more common, network designers must consider the implications of voice traffic on data networks and create a network design that accommodates voice traffic. Legacy telephone systems had many applications and features, which have now been largely replicated on IP over data networks. Convergence is not without its challenges and issues, but in the end, it can provide significant cost savings over running separate infrastructures for voice and data.
