Summary

ADO.NET is a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE subject, but in the space of this chapter I have given you a good foundation of ways to tackle many of the common tasks needed when interacting with a database in your ASP.NET applications. What you've learned here is also something you can build on as you experiment and move forward to creating more and more complex functions in your applications. ADO.NET is something that you grow into. It has many facets that, as with all the other objects in the .NET Framework, will begin to reveal themselves as you grow in knowledge. Don't be afraid to dig into the .NET Framework SDK in the System.Data, System.Data.SqlClient, and System.Data.Oledb namespaces. You will find other powerful ways to manipulate the objects that are contained within these namespaces.

Now that you have ADO.NET under your belt, it's time to move forward and investigate another bridge that the .NET Framework handsomely addresses, which is the stateless nature of the web and how that affects programming your ASP.NET pages and applications.
