URLS

Team-Fly

A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is an address that identifies a resource on the Internet. The general format for a URL is

method://server:port/path

Method refers to one of the rules or protocols used to retrieve or send information. Examples include http, ftp, mailto, and news.

The server refers to the computer on which the resource resides. The optional port parameter is used if the port number is different from that of the default for the method.

Path defines the location on the computer of the resource to which the URL is pointing.

Tip

A URL must not contain a space. If a space is required (that is, the document being accessed is My Document.txt), then a %20 (hex ASCII value for space) can be placed in the URL as shown here:

http://www.test.com/My%20Document.txt
