Outbound BAPIs

Team-Fly

We usually just think of BAPIs as functions within SAP that other systems can use. As of release 4.5A, SAP allows you to have outbound BAPIs. These types of BAPIs are functions that are called on systems outside of the R/3 environment.

The only items that are defined for an outbound BAPI are the parameters for the call, as there is no program on the R/3 system. An example of an outbound BAPI is to save data within a data warehouse that is external to SAP. Each time you process a business event, such as creating a sales order, you would then invoke an outbound BAPI that would trigger an RFC on the warehouse system.

The target system for an output BAPI is usually determined by the distribution model of the ALE.
