Changing an Object s Appearance

Changing an Object's Appearance

Objects typically are made up of a thin black line with white or gray fill inside it. If you want to add color to an object, or change its line thickness or color , you must format the object. There are three ways to display the Format dialog box for an object:

  • Right-click the object and choose Format Object (where Object is the type of graphic object).

  • Click the object, open the Format menu and choose Object , or press Ctrl+1 .

  • Double-click the object.

If you insert a picture from your hard disk using Insert, Picture, From File, you might be able to select the image, ungroup its component parts , and edit the image. Unfortunately, this technique doesn't work with Excel clip art.

Any way you do it, the Format Object dialog box appears. The name of the dialog box varies, depending on the object you chose to format. Figure 9.13 shows the Format AutoShape dialog box. The available options vary depending on the selected object. Enter your preferences and then click OK .
