Pending Operations

When changes are made that involve multiple domains, it is possible for these changes to take several minutes to complete. While connected to a particular domain, the Pending Operations box lists all operations that this domain still has marked as unsafe.

Consider an example in which a change was made to the phone number on a user that is owned by DOMAINA, but the person making the change is connected to DOMAINB. DOMAINB must wait for DOMAINA to acknowledge the change to the user whose phone number changed. Until an acknowledgment is returned to DOMAINB, the operation performed will show up in the Pending Operations box from the perspective of DOMAINB.

If you suspect synchronization problems, try using some of the buttons in this window to solve the problem. Unfortunately, this seldom works. Typically, when an operation is pending for an extended period, the problem is not a simple one. Try these actions to resolve a pending operation:

  • Undo: Restores the object record in this database to its original state and sends a request to the other domain or domains to do the same.

  • Retry: Resends the transaction request. This is likely to work only if the original request somehow got lost in transitsomething that seldom happensor if domain databases have been rebuilt to repair problems.

  • View: Displays the transaction in more detail.

  • Refresh: Rereads the list of pending operations.

You can certainly try and retry the item listed in Pending Operations. However, in my experience, you are generally better off using the Undo operation, and then redoing it, and keeping a close eye on the GroupWise agents to see whether the change goes through.
