Societies

The people of all the nation-states who have high-technology communications access—Internet, cellular telephones, faxes, satellite television, cable television—will become more sophisticated. They will have ever-increasing, massive amounts of information at their disposal, allowing them to become more knowledgeable on global matters. They also will become more aware of those throughout the world who have similar and different views.

The Internet and other high-technology tools provide massive, personal communications pipelines that will provide the means for people to communicate globally as never before. Such massive one-on-one communications will be a driving force that will affect governments, businesses, and societies to such an extent that the governments and businesses will develop extremely sophisticated techniques to influence these Internet communicators on a global scale—or attempt to deny them access to information.

Societies will become more sophisticated as they become more educated and knowledgeable about the world in which we live. High technology such as the Internet will also be the driver in helping people become better educated, often replacing today's Industrial Age school systems. Already, colleges and universities are offering courses and degrees through Internet access. This will allow individuals to obtain degrees from universities and colleges located in different nation-states of the world.

The Internet as a global learning center will not come without challenges from those in the educational systems and their unions who see such endeavors as a threat to their power and their bureaucracies. However, their delaying tactics will be just that, delaying the inevitable. ISSO professionals will be able to enroll in courses and learn from the best in their profession no matter where that professor may reside. Specialized, technology-related institutes will take on a more legitimate role as an educational institution and dominate the educational institutions of today.

The InfoSec professionals will be able to obtain degrees from the best colleges, universities, and institutes of the world. Furthermore, they will be able to take these courses based on their schedule. Papers will be transmitted via e-mail, and tests will be conducted through secure channels where the students' identification will be confirmed. Education of tomorrow not only will be different, but will be a required, lifelong endeavor. For those in the InfoSec profession and other professions, there will be less emphasis on where you received your education, and more on what you know and can apply to further business and protect IE assets. There are already signs of this, as those who can implement and maintain high-technology devices are sought out by corporations, regardless of their college degree or lack thereof.
