Using Trade Journals and Magazines for Training

Other overlooked and usually free sources of information are the technology trade journals and magazines. Such journals and magazines contain articles about the latest technologies or problems with this or that software; and more and more contain InfoSec-related articles. All this information will help you stay abreast of the technology and the related security issues.

Trade journals related to data communications, telecommunications, InfoSec, disaster recovery/contingency planning, information news, etc., are especially useful. Many of those journals can now be found on the Internet, making the search and the training convenient and, best of all, costing nothing but your time.

You must stay up-to-date on these changes. Once mainframe computer experience and access control software experience was needed. Now, you read about TCP/IP, UNIX, Web pages, etc. If you stay in this profession, be prepared to learn the rest of your professional life.

If you don't keep current in the technology, the technology will probably make you obsolete in less than 5 years.
