Chapter 12: InfoSec in the Interest of National Security

The security needs of a nation-state must be balanced with the inherent human rights and basic freedoms of its citizens.—Dr. Gerald L. Kovacich

Chapter Objective

This chapter identifies and explains InfoSec requirements, specifically those related to information systems, in the national security environment of a government-related corporation, such as a government contractor. This chapter also discusses the philosophy and processes that can be adapted to InfoSec programs in the world of business. [1]

[1]The reader who does not work for a company or university with government contracts may want to skip this chapter. However, many of the requirements set forth by various government agencies for the protection of their (the government's) information and InfoSec can cost-effectively be applied to the protection of nongovernment information. Also, one never knows whom they may be working for from time to time. Thus, the information presented in this chapter may provide some future value.
