Vandana Datye's Acknowledgments

It has been a pleasure to write this book with Nikhil and to learn from him many details about the architecture and implementation of server controls. I also developed a better understanding of various aspects of ASP.NET through discussions with others on the ASP.NET team, whom I would like to thank for their help: David Ebbo, Scott Guthrie, Susan Warren, Bradley Millington, David Gutierrez, and Anthony Moore. I would also like to thank Seth Manheim and Lisa Supinski of the .NET Framework user education team for enabling me to access several resources I needed while working on this book.

Jim Langer, distinguished physicist and physics professor , emphasized the importance of patterns to me years ago when I was his graduate student. That training proved especially valuable when I made the transition from physics to software.

I am greatly indebted to Drs. Jarrell and Angell for helping me fight advanced cancer and subsequently to Dr. Goff for helping me stay in remission these past seven years.

Finally, special thanks to my husband, Satish Thatte, and my daughter , Arita, for their patience and understanding while I was working on this book. I could always count on Satish's support. Arita didn't complain when I reneged on nearly all my promises to do things with her during these past eight months.
