This chapter started by looking at all the new index-related features in SQL Server 2005. From there we examined the details of partitioning, looking at how to set up partitioning, and covering the three main scenarios for partitioning: creating a partition from an existing table, adding a new partition, and deleting an old partition. Next we took a look at index fragmentation and how the commands for this have changed since SQL Server 2000. Finally we looked at Database Tuning Advisor, including comprehensive coverage of the various options and how to asses the value of DTAs recommendations. In the next chapter we will be looking at replication.
