iMovie HD: NO MORE BLACK BACKGROUNDS FOR TITLES

Are you tired of having all your titles appear over a black background (which does tend to give your movies a "Made in iMovie" look to them)? Here's what to do: You're going to have to build your title between two existing clips (you can move it later if you like), so in the Timeline, click on the clip on the right and drag it a little to the right, which creates an empty space between the two clips. Now Control-click right in that empty space on the Timeline, and from the contextual menu that appears choose Convert Empty Space to Clip. This puts an empty black background there, but you're not stuck with blackjust double-click directly on that clip and the Clip Info dialog will appear. In that dialog you'll see a Color swatch. Click it and the Colors dialog appears, where you can choose the color you want. Once that's done, you can add your title right over that new background color.
