ADDING CUSTOM MAIL SOUNDS

If you don't like Apple's built-in Mail alert sounds, you can use your own custom sounds (I downloaded the AOL classic "You've Got Mail.aiff"). Once you've got the audio file you want to use for your alert, go to your Home folder, open your Library folder, then open your Sounds folder and drop it in there. Then, go back to Mail, and under the Mail menu choose Preferences. In the Preferences dialog, click on the General icon. In the New Mail Sound pop-up menu, you should see your new sound at the bottom of the list. (If not, choose Add/Remove. This opens your Sounds folder, where you'll find the alert sound you put there moments ago. Click on it, then click Done, which adds your sound to the New Mail Sound pop-up menu). Now that it's in the list, you can choose it as your new mail sound. Dig it.
