When you open an application that supports Mac OS X's built-in Speech control (like Chess for instance), it brings up what I call "the incredibly annoying round microphone thingy." It floats around, taking up space, and if you're not using Speech control (which most of us aren't), it's just plain annoying. If you are actually using Speech control, it's still annoying (necessary perhaps, but still annoying). To get it out of sight, double-click on the top half of it (avoiding the bottom because of a built-in pop-up menu), and it will tuck itself into the Dock while you work. |
