Okay, picture this: You're reading an email from an old friend, and he mentions that he saw your friend Alan the other day (of course, this only works if you actually have a friend named Alan, so if you don't, now would be a great time to cultivate a relationship with someone named Alan). So when you see Alan's name, you think: "Didn't he send me some photos?" But rather than going to Spotlight and typing "Alan," just highlight the name Alan within the email, then Control-click and from the contextual menu that appears, choose Search Spotlight.
