If you're creating images that will be output on a printing press, you're probably already familiar with gamut problems (colors that are so vivid and saturated that they're out of the range of CMYK printing). There's a tool in Photoshop called the Sponge tool that lets you paint over highly saturated areas to bring them back into gamut. Yup, it's there all right; we just don't recommend using it, because it does a somewhat harsh job of what Photoshop's going to do anyway when you convert the entire image to CMYK mode. Since Photoshop's going to do it anyway, why waste your time (and possibly mess up your image)? |
