Chapter Review

We have looked at various aspects of DNS. We started with what I hope was a recap of how DNS works; I assumed that as a CSA you have experienced DNS before. We moved on to look at some techniques for delegation. Next we moved on to the thorny problem of having DHCP clients automatically updated in the DNS. This takes a little work if you have IPv6 installed on your system. Finally, we touched on aspects of security in DNS, namely Transaction SIGnatures (TSIG). We could take this discussion further by looking at a number of other directives, such as update-policy and DNSSEC: A DNS Security Extension, which involves authenticating DNS information in a zone. I hope that the discussions we have had up to now give you the confidence to try such things in your own time.
