The Blend feature is one of the most powerful, versatile, and fun tools in Illustrator. You can use blends to create transitional images. Or you can create smooth color transitions to use for shadows, for tube-like results, or for other interesting effects. Blends take full advantage of Illustrator s underlying math-based curve logic.
Aesthetically, you can use blends to create a series of distinct transitions or to attach what appear to be effects such as shading or gradient blending to images. Figure 12-1 shows blending used for both purposes.
Tip | You can't apply blending to bitmaps that you place in an Illustrator drawing. You also can't assign blends to type. If you need to assign blending to text, you'll need to convert that text to outlines. (Select the type block and choose Type Create Outlines.) For more on working with type, see Part III in this book. |
