At the end of each chapter are problems designed to reinforce the material covered in the chapter. Some of these problems are designed to be answered with paper and pencil to allow students to reason about how and why things are implemented as they are in Java. Some are extensions to programs implemented in the chapter to reinforce the concepts shown in those programs. Finally, some problems are programs to be implemented using the principles presented in the chapter.
