Summary

 < Day Day Up >

Just as the implementation and installation of a new SMS 2003 site requires more than a little thought and planning to be successful, in this chapter we've seen that at least as much thought and planning are necessary when migrating an existing SMS 2.0 site structure to SMS 2003. Perhaps all your SMS 2.0 sites will be migrated. Perhaps circumstances will necessitate planning for and maintaining a mixed SMS 2.0 and SMS 2003 environment. Whatever your needs might be, the more effort and thought you put into creating a migration strategy, the more successful and, perhaps even more important, the more uneventful your upgrade will be.

Well, it seems we have come to the end of our exploration of SMS 2003. This book has tried to provide you with a clearer understanding of SMS's many features and how to use them. Along with this understanding, you have hopefully developed a greater appreciation of the exceptional management potential this product can bring to your network environment. The inventory, package delivery, Remote Tools, and software metering features, along with the new Advanced Client, advanced security mode, and integration with Active Directory provide you with a complete and scalable management solution.

You can look forward to additional enhancements and integration into the Windows operating system as this product continues to evolve. Good luck as you embark on your own implementation and administration of SMS 2003.
