Freeze Frames

Avid Xpress also lets you create a still image of a video clip, called freeze frames. Once they are rendered, freeze frames can be used just like any kind of media. As with motion effects, this type of effect is created prior to being edited into your sequence. To perform a freeze frame, follow these steps:

  1. Load the clip into the source monitor and park the Position Indicator on the frame you want to freeze.

  2. Choose Freeze Frame from the Clip menu.

  3. Before you determine how long the image will be frozen, scroll down to the bottom and choose a render style. These are the same as they were when rendering a motion effect.

  4. Then choose Freeze Frame again and determine how long you want to freeze the image. The shorter the better. If you freeze a clip for five seconds and need to use it for 20 seconds, simply perform four edits.

  5. Remember, when you render a freeze frame, a new clip is added to a bin.

To create a freeze frame at the end of a playing clip, use the Match Frame button to find the last frame to freeze. After the frame is loaded in the source monitor, advance one frame and freeze this frame. Add it to the end of the sequence. Now you have a freeze frame at the end of a playing clip.
