Sorting Your Files and Folders

A single folder can contain a large number of files, so when you're looking for one particular file, it can be difficult to find, especially if you don't remember its name. Worse, if you need several files that are scattered all through the folder, it can be quite time-consuming to find and select the ones you want. Fortunately, you can sort the information by any of the fields, group files by numerous categories, or filter the data so that only the information you want is displayed.

Sort by Field

Click the field label that you want to sort by.

If you want to reverse the sort order, click the field a second time.

Group, Filter, or Stack

Click the down arrow next to the field label.

If you want to group the files and folders and show all the files in the grouping, click Group.

If you want to show only selected files and folders, select the check boxes for the items to be displayed.

If you want to conduct an automatic search to group the files and folders but show only the grouping rather than the individual items, click Stack By Name. To display files and folders in a stack, double-click the stack.
