Managing Your Photos

The Windows Photo Gallery does an excellent job of managing your photos, but every so often you might want to do a bit of extra managementfor example, renaming a series of photos or copying some photos to a Word document. You can go directly to the folder where the photo is stored and do whatever file management you want.

Rename Your Photos

In Windows Photo Gallery, click the photo to select it. If you want to rename a series of photos with the same name and then number them consecutively, select all the photos you want to rename.

Click the File button, and choose Rename from the drop-down menu.

Type the new name for the photo or series of photos, and then press Enter. Photo Gallery will automatically number the series of photos.

"Recovering a Deleted Item" on page 208 for information about restoring photos that you deleted.

Caution

Be aware that when you delete a photo from either the Photo Gallery or a folder, the photo is automatically deleted from the other location. Therefore, if you delete a photo from the Photo Gallery, it's also deleted from its folder and removed from your computer.

Copy Your Photos

Select the photo or photos you want to copy.

Click the File button, and choose Copy from the drop-down menu to copy the photo or photos to the Clipboard so that you can paste them into a different program or folder.

Caution

Some programsPaint, for exampledon't allow you to paste multiple pictures, so you should copy only a single file if you want to paste it. You'll need to check or experiment with your application to see whether it will allow you to paste multiple pictures at the same time.

Manage the File

Right-click the photo you want to manage, and choose Open File Location from the shortcut menu.

In the folder window that appears, conduct whatever management you want, just as you would with any other file.
