Chapter 26. Using the Stories Archive Module

The Stories Archive module is worth enabling if you use the News module at all. Stories Archive requires no administration or maintenance, making it a hassle-free way to provide some much-needed functionality to your site. Figure 26.1 shows what the module looks like on my site at ScriptingAnswers.com.

Clicking on a monthor the All Stories linkbrings up a list of articles, as shown in Figure 26.2. As you can see, this is a much more compact list than the News module uses, and it doesn't include topics/categories, icons, or anything else. The list is sorted by the posting date of each article. At the bottom of the list, the module repeats the monthly listenabling you to quickly jump to another month or show all storiesas well as the Search text box. Searching is a quick way to find stories with a specific keyword in them.

If you're using the News moduleand who isn't?you should be using the Stories Archive module. Remember that News stories will rotate off your home page eventually; only the newest 10 stories are shown by default. Even clicking on a topic or category shows only 10 stories, making the Stories Archive module the only way to browse older stories. It's also the only way to get a comprehensive list of every story posted to your site.
