Do This, Right Now

Before you do anything else, you need to create your site's superuser. This will usually be done for you if your Web-hosting company installed PHP-Nuke, but not always. Check. You need to create at least one superuser account, or administrator, to configure your site.

To do so, point your Web browser to http://servername/admin.php. You may be prompted to log on if you're hosting your site with someone; in that case, you've already got a superuser and don't need to create a new one. Just log on with whatever credentials the hosting company told you to use for your PHP-Nuke administration.

Otherwise, click Edit Admins from the Administration Menu. Create a new administratorthink up a clever name like Adminwith a good, difficult-to-guess password. Select the Super User check box to make this user a superuseror, in PHP-Nuke's less politically correct terminology, the God Admin.

You should also set your site's preferences in the Administration console, but I'll cover that in the next topic. If you're already checking out your new Web site and noticing that things don't look quite right, it's okay. They'll get better after you set a few configuration settings to the proper values.
