Chapter 33. Adding the Events Calendar Module

This is a third-party module that I've used on my Web site at www.ScriptingAnswers.com. It provides a great calendar module and comes with several blocks that list upcoming events on every page of your site. I especially like the scrolling block, which has a neat smooth-scrolling effect almost like a marquee or something.

You can obtain the module from http://phpnuke.holbrookau.net/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=10&ttitle=Event_Calendar_2.13. Be sure to search around on the site's Downloads section for a more recent version, although this version was the most recent as of this writing. This particular module is written for PHP-Nuke 7.0, although I have no problems using it on v7.2 on ScriptingAnswers.com (actually, I use 2.12 of the module on ScriptingAnswers.com). Related downloads, including other versions of the module, are available at http://phpnuke.holbrookau.net/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=2.

By the Way

If you find that these links don't work, just visit the main Web site (http://phpnuke.holbrookau.net) and visit the Downloads section.

The Event Calendar includes full installation instructions, which, as with most add-in modules, consist of copying a few files to your Web site and running a special Web page to set up your site's database to meet the new module's needs. After installing the module and setting up the database, you should find the module listed along with your other modules under the Modules item on PHP-Nuke's Administration Menu. You should also see an icon on the Administration menu for the Event Calendar.

I should probably point out that there are dozens of other calendar modules for PHP-Nuke. Event Calendar, however, is a popular one, and it provides a lot of flexibility along with an attractive user interface that fits into most PHP-Nuke sites. Search Google for "phpnuke calendar module" if you'd like to look for alternatives. Like many excellent PHP-Nuke modules, Event Calendar is free, although I'm sure the author would not object to donations if you find the module useful.
