In this chapter, we investigated the basic Sockets API functions that permit the construction of simple stream and datagram servers and clients. Although the Linux API was provided as the example Sockets API, it follows the BSD API very closely. Third-party Sockets implementations may differ slightly in naming and types used, but in most cases, the spirit of the API remains. In the next section, we continue our investigation of the Sockets API, looking at the more advanced functions.
