Choosing the Best Method to Start a Presentation

To begin working with PowerPoint, you can create a new presentation or you can open one that you've already worked on. You can use the New Presentation dialog box as your starting point. The option that you choose depends on how you want to start a presentation. If you have content ready and have a design in mind, choose the Blank Presentation option. If you have content ready but need help with a presentation look, choose the My Templates option or one of the many installed templates or Microsoft Office Online templates available to you through the Web. Microsoft Office Online provides easy access to an expanding online library of templates.

The New Presentation dialog box also includes a section called Spotlight (New!), which features articles, tips, and links to Office Online templates, trainings, downloads, and more. If you like the Spotlight online content, you can turn on automatic updates by clicking the link on the orange bar at the bottom. If you have an existing presentation and want to make design and content changes to it for a new presentation without altering the original, choose the New from existing option. If you can't find the template you want, you can use the Search box at the top of the New Presentation dialog box to help you.
