When you finish working on a document, you can close it and open another document, or close it and quit Word. To protect your files, always quit Word before turning off your computer.
Close a Document and Exit Word
Click the File menu, and then click Close to close your document or click Exit to close your document and exit Word.
Click Yes to save any document changes; click No to close the document without saving any changes; or click Cancel to return to the document without closing it.
