Saving Documents as Web Pages

graphics/microsoftoffice44.gif

Any existing Word document, or new document that you create, can be saved as a Web Page. When Word saves the document as a Web Page, it automatically converts any Word formatting to Hypertext Markup Language ( HTML ) . HTML is the standard format for posting and viewing data on a Web site. A Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, interprets HTML code to determine how to display a Web page. The document that you save as a Web page consists of an HTML file and a folder that stores supporting files, such as graphics. Word selects the appropriate graphic format for you based on the image's content. You can continue to open and work with the file from Word.

For Your Information

Reducing Web Page Size

You can reduce Web page size by filtering HTML in Word. Filtered HTML reduces the file size of the Web page to make e-mail transmission of the Web page faster or to speed the download and display of the Web page by a browser. To save a Web page in filtered HTML, click the File menu, click Save As Web Page, click the Save As Type list arrow, click Web Page, Filtered, and then click Save. If you save a document as Filtered HTML, and then want to edit the document, you might find that some features of Word are unavailable.
