Our FTP example shows how you can display the contents of remote FTP server via a web page, as shown in Figure 4-2. FTP is a relatively old, cumbersome protocol, not as well known as the standard HTTP/HTML used by web browsers. Most users wind up downloading and installing custom FTP clients to access FTP resources, although most modern browsers have some cumbersome FTP access capability built-in. Figure 4-2. The page is fairly simplewhen the page is first visited, the default login directory is shown. When a link is clicked, the dir parameter is passed back to the page, and the contents of the new directory are displayed. This allows a user to easily browse the contents of an FTP server. The links at the top of the page allow a user to quickly return "up" the directory's path. |
