About the author

Ken MacKenzie BSc (Hons), PhD, MBA

Dr Ken MacKenzie completed all of his studies at the University of Queensland and is Managing Director of the consultancy company MacKenzie Strategic Pty Ltd.

Ken s interest in innovation began about thirteen years ago when he realised most organisations had no strategic perspective on innovation, and that even those that saw innovation as important had a haphazard approach to its implementation.

After ten years in general management he spent the 1990s working on strategic planning and marketing projects with a number of organisations both large and small. He also assisted numerous organisations to implement more effective management systems.

While reviewing the links between the strategic and operational effectiveness of various organisations, Ken became concerned that so many lacked a planned approach to innovation. This inspired him to develop a diagnostic tool, the Innovation Index . This diagnostic benchmarking tool allows organisations to develop a company-wide approach to innovation by initially determining their shortcomings and then aiding the development of strategies for implementation.
