Final Thoughts

In this project you've begun to get acclimated to InDesign CS 2! These projects stepped you through basic page layout and text formatting skills, but more importantly, you've completed some of the most common and frequently requested publications.

Here are some important concepts to keep in mind:

  • Vector artwork, particularly for your company's logo, will pay off dividends in the long run. It should be easy to use and scale so that it can be repurposed repeatedly.

  • When creating collateral, you have to think about how people will use iteverything from what type of printer it will be put through to how a template will be used.

  • Collateral is often mailedafter all, its primary use is word processing of letters. Make sure you clearly understand mailing requirements.

  • Determine what type of information you want to include on your letterhead versus your business card. Are you simply trying to convey contact information, or more than that, such as marketing information?

  • There's more to branding than letterhead and envelopes. Branding is all about delivering a consistent message anytime anyone encounters your company. So, everything from CD inserts to T-shirts must be considered.

  • Communicating effectively with your print service provider is critical. Supplying them with everything they need to produce your work is a win-win for everyone. Always include a content proof so they can compare their work with yours.
