You will be the one to introduce WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer to the application development programming community. If you explain the key aspects of the product to them, they will be better able to take advantage of the features.
In the previous sections, we described what other groups can do for you. In this section we describe what you can do for other groups.
You must make it clear to your site’s application programmers that WSAA can provide the following benefits for them:
They can quickly find and assess the impact of application changes.
One example that has been demonstrated in the available product documentation, and which we use in Chapter 5, “Working with your inventory” on page 139, is the need to change or expand a WORKING-STORAGE field in a COBOL program (or copybook).
They can find and rate programs in your site’s application portfolio for their ability to be used as e-business connectors.
Industry analysts say that up to 40 per cent of currently executing code can be reused in e-business deliveries, saving millions in potential investment as well as helping meet both time to market and quality expectations.
Note | Work with your site’s Training and Education department to establish the appropriate levels of WSAA courses for your application development community. |
Some things that application programmers can help you with include:
Identifying additional application program libraries to be scanned for inventory collection
Assisting with problem resolution for any issues that arise from scanning application code
