Most of the information appearing in this chapter is generic — that is, it's not assembly language specific. As such, you'll find a wealth of information on file I/O in data structure texts and other introductory programming texts. The HLA Standard Library provides hundreds of functions and procedures related to file I/O. For more information on those, please consult the HLA Standard Library Reference Manual.
If you're interested in implementing a database engine in assembly language, you should definitely consider obtaining a college textbook on database design. Although such texts almost always use a high level language, most of the theoretical information appearing in such texts is language independent, and you'll find it quite useful when working on your assembly database engine.
