A map is a representation of real-world geographical features onto which additional data can be overlaid.
A basic feature of a map is the projection—the way geographical features have been drawn on the paper.
A map’s scale is the relative measure of the units of distance on the paper that map to the real-world environment.
Coordinates are a pair of numbers that identify a position in a two-dimensional plane with respect to a fixed datum. The most commonly used coordinate system consists of latitude and longitude.
