Workshop

The Workshop is designed to help you anticipate possible questions, review what you've learned, and begin learning how to put your knowledge into practice.

Quiz

1:

How do you change the size or position of an object in a slide?

2:

How do you change the order of the slides in the presentation?

3:

How do you start the slide show, and how do you navigate in it?

Answers

A1:

Click the Select tool (the white arrow icon) near the absolute left of the drawing toolbar across the bottom of the Impress window. Then single-click on the object you want to edit. When the green resize handles appear, you can use them to resize the object, or you can click the object and drag it to reposition it.

A2:

The easiest way to change slide order is to choose View, Slide Sorter from the menu bar. Choosing this option shows you all your slides in miniature in a grid, where you can drag them around into whatever order you prefer. When you're done, select View, Normal to return to the editor.

A3:

To start a slide show, select Slide Show, Slide Show from the menu bar or press the F5 key. In the slide show, click your mouse button or press the right-arrow key to proceed to the next slide. Press the left-arrow key to return to the pre vious slide. Press the Escape key to leave the slide show and return to Impress.

Activities

  1. Explore more of the drawing tools in the main toolbar to familiarize yourself with the task of creating illustrations in Impress.

  2. Add a few more slides to the show you created in this chapter using some of the layouts you didn't use, just to experiment.

  3. Rearrange the order of your slides or change some of the transitions between them (see the Q&A item earlier); then play back the slide show to see how it changes.
