Q&A

Q1:

Can XMMS play music in other digital formats?

A1:

Yes, XMMS can play .WAV files natively, and many other file formats are supported through plug-ins. For more details, visit http://www.xmms.org.

Q2:

What about playing DVD movies in Linux?

A2:

Because a number of complex legal issues surround the playback of commercial DVDs, the use of DVD-playing software in Fedora Core 4 may or may not be legal where you live. Software for DVD playback therefore is not included in Fedora Core 4. To download DVD playback software for Linux, visit one of the following URLs:

Q3:

Can I use Fedora Core to make my own MP3 files from CDs I have?

A3:

Yes. However, because of the legal issues involved, Fedora Core 4 doesn't include the software necessary to do so. The process for making MP3 files is therefore beyond the scope of this book. For more information on making MP3 files in Linux, visit the LAME project at:

http://lame.sourceforge.net

Fedora Core 4 is capable of changing your music CDs into other music formats such as .WAV, though we won't discuss the process in this book. To start the application used to do this, choose Applications, Sound & Video, Sound Juicer CD Ripper.
