Another common scenario involves converting a color image to grayscale. Most of us take color photos with either our traditional or digital cameras . When you want to use one of those images in a black-and-white publication, convert the image to grayscale mode using Photoshop, as described here:
Click on Image . The Image menu will appear.
Point to Mode . The Mode submenu will appear.
Click on Grayscale . A dialog box will appear to ask whether you want to complete the conversion by discarding color information.
Note | It's not necessary to flatten the image before converting to grayscale. However, if you do not flatten the image first and the image contains a color adjustment layer, the wording of the dialog box that appears after step 3 will be slightly different, asking if you want to discard the adjustment layer information. |
Click on OK . Photoshop will complete the grayscale conversion.
Note | If you convert from grayscale back to one of the color modes, Photoshop won't be able to recreate the original color information. For that reason, it's a good idea to save a copy of your image file before converting to grayscale, so that you can continue working with the color version of the image whenever you need it. |
