What is CGIDEV2, and what can I do with it?
For ILE programmers, CGIDEV2 is comfortingly familiar. It's a set of service programs that "wrap" around a set of API programs provided by IBM. These APIs provide all the necessary functionality for reading and writing Web pages to remote clients through the typical HTTP servers. However, the APIs were complex and difficult to work with.
Some programmers within IBM undertook the challenge of developing CGIDEV2 to provide a friendlier, easier interface for Web programming from within traditional business languages such as RPGIV and COBOL.
