About the Technical Editors

Daniel P. Newman has been in the computer industry for more than 10 years , working as a consultant, systems integrator, programmer, development manager, and technical trainer for projects all over the world. As a systems integrator, Daniel has implemented several computer and network solutions for a wide variety of industries, ranging from titanium plants, diamond mines, robotic-control systems, and secure Internet banking. Exposure to countries such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, the United States, and the United Kingdom has given him expertise in presenting and implementing computer network solutions despite various cultural challenges and language barriers. Daniel is currently working as a senior technical trainer for Cisco and Microsoft products, and has authored the CCSP PIX firewall book for ExamCram 2 . He holds the following certifications: CCNP, CCDA, CSS1, CCSP, INFOSEC, MCSA, MCSE, MCDBA, MCT, A+, Network+, I-Net+, Server+, Security+, and Linux+. Daniel is currently pursuing a CCIE in security. Steven Thomas (Seven Lakes, North Carolina) is the chief technical officer of Meridian Networks (http://www.mnetworks.net), a North Carolinabased network systems integration firm. Before acquiring this position, he developed and coordinated the Network Administration and Support curriculum at Sandhills Community College. Before his appointment at SCC, he served as the president of Gate City Consulting, where he specialized in consulting, technical training, testing, researching , authoring, and providing development services related to data and telecommunication technology. Steven is a Cisco Certified Academy Instructor as well as a Microsoft Certified Trainer. In addition, he holds the MCSE, MCSA, CCSP, CCDA, CCNP, CCNA, A+, Network+, MCP+I, and CNA certifications. He is also the author of the widely acclaimed and successful Windows NT 4.0 Registry: A Professional Reference (McGraw-Hill, 1998).

Ed Yanez has been in the computer industry for 14 years and has been working with Cisco products for 8 years. He trained on Novell, Windows, and Cisco, and has worked for Zenith Data Systems, BCS/Tech Center, and Cox Communications' high-speed Internet division). He is currently a Cisco instructor at KnowledgeNet, where he teaches the advanced courses for DQoS, CSPFA, CSIDS, SECUR, CSVPN, CSI, CCIE R/S, CCIE Security, and others. Ed has also been a Cisco network troubleshooter and designer consultant. He lives in Gilbert, Arizona, with his wife, Carolina, and two children, Jaycee and Stephanie.

Ed holds the following certifications: Security+, MCSE+I, CCNA, CCDA, CCDP, CCNP, CSS1, and CCIE #6784 (R/S and Security).
